Accident!!
|
|
Suddenly the van in front of us was swerving frantically trying to slow down as he stepped on his brakes..At the sight of the peculiar action, I screamed for my dad to hit the brakes.
But it was too late, the distance was too close. The emergency brake failed. We hit the van with a loud crack.. subsequently another car banged into us. In the distance we could hear another car hitting the rear car.. resulting in a four-car-pile-up. Fotunately there were no casualties.
Everyone got out of their respective cars trying to estimate the damage.
We're on top of the Motorola Cable Bridge, and the evening rain was pouring. Knowing that a huge traffic jam is brewing as we stood there, everyone took each other's detail as soon as they could masters and then headed to the PJ Police Station to make their reports.
It will take 3 weeks to fix the car. It's a good thing we didn't sell our old car when we bought the new one .

Chem-E-Car
|
|
Today was the UKM level Chem-E-Car competition to chose candidates for the National Level competition on the 14th of January in UM. Whichever team wins the National Level will be representing Malaysia to the annual Chem-E-Car competition this year.
Last year UKM was Malaysia's representative and they won 5th place in the International level. Thus, this year there are many who wish to follow the succesful footsteps of their predecesors.
Here's a picture of last year's Malaysian representatite:
Eventhough I have officially resigned from UKM last week, I've decided to come and be part of this competition.. and what an exciting day it's been. Initially I have already been in the committee organizing this University level competition and the others thought that it would be a shame if all I didn't get a chance to experience the actual event. So I came to help out, and it's so much fun.. I'm glad I came (though I forgot my camera )
Anyway, some of you reading this might be at loss.. what is this Chem-E-Car competition about?
For one it's a competition where all Chemical engineers should feel excited about.. a competition, held for undergraduate students (I'm definitely over-qualified up to the point that I'm not qualified.. heheh) to design a car which runs on chemical reactions. Of course at this level we're not dealing with the full sized car, just a miniture model of one. The students are required to design and construct a car that is powered with a chemical energy source that will carry a certain load to a given distance and stop. The car will be judged based on the combination of completion of a defined task, design creativity and issues related to safety, environment and health as the model car handles chemical fuel.
This event is organised by the Chemical Engineering Technical Division of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia and began it's first year in 2004. The competition of each category consists of 2 sessions, which are poster presentation and model car performance competition.
Dealing with chemicals, you can be sure to expect many types of creative designs by the students. Most of the cars today uses the electrode-electrolyte-electrode design mostly used in batteries. The only difference is based on what electrodes and electrolytes they used. Other designs includes pressure propulsions to push the car forward but with this design it is very important that the pressure chamber is properly sealed.. leakages might cause the failure of motion to the model car. And that it exactly what happend to one group. During their test-runs their rubber sealer broke and they couldn't get a replacement in time for this competition. So they were forefitted for the competition, they joined only for the poster session and got partial points only.
It was so exciting to see the cars move and stop just within the distance limit carrying the specified load. For todays competition the judges have set 30 minits prior to the competition that the car should carry a load of 300g and move a distance of less than 15 meters. A few cars wents out of the course but most was within the limit.
The competition only lasted a few minutes but you can see the great deal of effort put into it by the contestants. It took the judges more than 30 minutes to decide the winning rank.
I enjoyed the day so much, it made me wish that I'm part of the contestants. Why didn't we have this competition when I was an undergrad? Oh well..

Malek & Siti's Wedding
|
|
We were driving to one of Norman's primary school friend's wedding today and got held up in an awfully long traffic jam just off the Nilai exit in the federal highway.. After an hour and a half we managed to find out the cause of the traffic jam. A huge lorry delivering milk had hit the advertising board on the road which was overhead from the highway we were driving in, resulting in an unfortunate accident which spews bottles of milk onto the road below. Here is a scene from the accident.
We managed to get to the wedding hall towards the end of the ceremony. As the caterers began to clear the tables, we were greeted by the bride & groom. Fortunately some other guests were also late due to the same accident. So we weren't eating alone.
Anyway, congratulatiosn to the happy couple. We wish you all the best in your future. May you both be blessed with many kids and all the joy and love that comes with it.

Akshardham Temple, Monument to World Peace
|
|
I had this emailed to me by an architect friend and I thought that it's worth sharing the information, and the beautiful pictures
Pictures by Lim, Han Ping.
After 5 years of non-stop, round-the-clock construction, the massive and awesome Akshardham Temple Monument to World Peace was inaugurated today. The Akshardham Temple in New Delhi, India, constructed by the BAPS foundation -- the builders of the various Swaminaryan Temples across the world, is truely a modern day Wonder of the World.
It is one of the biggest and most intricate religious places of worship ever constructed. Combining several completely different and contrasting architectural styles of Hindu temple architecture of northern India -- Rajasthani, Orrisan, Gujarati, Mughal and Jain -- the Akshardham Monument is entirely constructed of marble and the red-sandstone that Delhi is famous for, and that so many of her monuments are constructed of. It was completed in only 5 years a world record of sorts
So after years of waiting, the Temple was yesterday opened to the public -- and to photographers. Below is the New Delhi Akshardham Complex as seen through the eyes of a BAPS photographer. At its inaguration, it is widely being heralded as one of the greatest monuments India has ever produced.
-----------==---=---==-----------
Monument of Akshardham
The Akshardham monument, built without steel, is entirely composed of sandstone and marble. It consists of 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, 20 quadrangled shikhars, a spectacular Gajendra Pith (plinth of stone elephants) and 20,000 murtis and statues of India's great sadhus, devotees, acharyas and divine personalities.
The monument is a fusion of several architectural styles of pink stone and pure white marble. Pink stone symbolizes bhakti (devotion) in eternal bloom and white marble of absolute purity and eternal peace. The monument was built after over 300 million man hours of services rendered by 11,000 volunteers, sadhus and artisans.
It is the one of the wonders of the modern world, and the wonders of modern India.

Now it's time for the wedding reception at our house. The guests began to arrive at noon, though our relatives were already here at 11 to help out.
It was a lovely day, not too hot and not too cold.. not that Malaysia is ever cold.. Well what I mean is, at least it's not raining.
Norman is once again the best man, and I'm the 'gift receiver' cum usher cum lady behind the camera.. which explains why I'm not really part of the pictures.. hopefully the real photographer has some shots of me.
Nonetheless, the ceremony went along smoothly. Everyone looks happy..especially the wedded couple..

"Ya Allah Satukanlah hati dua mempelai ini sepertimana Engkau satukan hati Adam & Hawa, Yusof & Zulaikha dan Muhammad S.A.W. & Siti Khadijah. Kami memohon da restuMu, semoga jodoh kedua-dua mempelai ini berkekalan buat selama-lamanya sehingga ke akhir hayat ~ Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin"

AMIRUDDIN & NORLIEYANA - Wedding Reception @ PWTC
|
|
Tonight is the wedding reception at Dewan Tun Dr. Ismail in PWTC. The ceremony began at about 9pm with the arrival of the VIP guests.. followed by the silat performance, food, cake cutting, slide shows and finally a brief speech by the bride's mother, siblings and the wedding couple themselves.
The bride and groom looks absolutely fabulous. The ceremony was beautiful and the live band was a bonus. A definite must-have assesory in the planning of our wedding next.
The newly weds looks so beautiful..
Now two families become one.
