SRD in Miri

A week ago, I received a call from Shell stating that they want to invite me to their Shell Recruitment Day in Miri on the 19th and 20th September. At first I was hesitant to attend the SRD as I had just switched jobs 3 months ago, but after talking to some friends and family they convinced me that I should give it a try since everything will be paid for..
So I booked my flight, packed my bags and dragged myself out of bed to catch the 7.25 am flight to Miri on Monday. Initially I was scared that I'd be lost and lonely in this foreign ground, but I was relieved that as soon as I checked into the hotel, the receptionist told me that one of the other candidates had just checked in and wanted to get together before going to the Training Center.

10 minits after I got into my room, my phone was already ringing and another candidate introduced himself to me and we tried to contact the others. We know that they'll be 4 people checking in that morning. As it turns out, 3 of us were in the same flight that morning
Afterwards, we went around to get lunch. I ate at a place called SUGAR BUN. Later I found out from Elizabeth (who is from Kuching) that Sugar Bun is a famous fast food franchais in Sabah/Sarawak.
After lunch we went back to the hotel and prepared for the 3 o'clock orientation session. On our way up to our rooms we met another candidate, who seems to be looking for us too.. We decided to share the same taxi to go to our orientation.. After hanging out for a while, we managed to contact the fourth person.
At about 2, the four of us gathered at the hotel lobby. I was so shocked to find that our 4th person is actually my junior at the States. Once we arrive at the Training Center, I was even more shocked to see another person also from Minnesota. What a reunion! 
While waiting we started to introduce ourselves to one another. Allen is the only one from Miri and Shin Yang is a Shell intern from Imperial College (London), Hakim is a civil engineer working with a consulting company in Damansara Heights, Elyn is working as an engineer in a semiconductor company, Shamsul is a Phhysics teacher in MRSM KK and Faris has just returned from USA. Everyone was very friendly, it helps to ease the nervousness.
After the orientation session, Allen send us to our hotels in his Pajero. That night we all hang out in my room drinking coffee and tea and finishing off the pastries which we brought home from the evening. We talked further more about ourselves, our experiences, and ghost stories.. After a while we went to dinner and then back to bed.
The recruitment day started as early as 7am for some of us, mine started at 7.40 am. Some of us confessed that they counldn't sleep well the night before out of nervousness. The recruitment day was split into 3 sessions: a casestudy & presentation,a short career discussion, group discussion & a pretend press conference, and finally a technical interview. It was quite tough, but we all tried our best.
Regardless of the fact that we'll be most likely stationed in Miri if we get the job, we all wanted it deep down. The results would be announced 3 days after SRD at the most.
After the interview, Allen took us to the airport. My flight was actually at 9.40pm, but I wanted to get to the airport early to see if we could catch an earlier flight. Unfortunately that was not possible. So we waited 4 hours for our flight  Those who are leaving at 7pm went to the airport in Shamsul's aunt's car. At the airport all 6 of us hung out at 'Restoran Wok' until we were called to board the plane.
It was a long and tiring day.. but it was all worth it at the end when I received the good news the next day
