Kak Ija's Wedding

I arrived just in time to join the wedding band..

Yesterday I went to Kak Ija's wedding. It was actually the groom's side but since I've missed the bride's reception a fortnight ago, Kak Ija had invited me to attend this one instead.
Kak Ija (also known formally as Ms. Fariza Zainal Abidin) is the closest hing to an older sister to me while I was studying abroad in University of Minnesota. Not only that, she was my roommate and friend. She is the coolest person, and we have so much in common. I really enjoyed being with her, even if it was for a short while. Whenever we don't see each other she'd write to me once in a while and whenever I return back to Malaysia, we would meet up and talk as if we've never been separated.. she's so much fun.. and now she's gone and got married, leaving me in bachelorette zone all alone...
Anyway, according to the wedding invitation, the ceremony was suppose to begin at 12 noon and end at 4pm. So when I left the house at 1 o'clock, I felt that I was definitely late. As it turns out, luck was on my side. As I was looking for a parking spot at the near the wedding site, I could see strapping young lads carrying the "kompang" walking towards the next street from the wedding tents. At this sight I assumed that the ceremony was almost at its end and the guests were beginning to leave the site. Then just as I founds a parking spot, I got out of the car and heard the kompang drummings melodizing the familiar wedding tune. However, at the time I wasn't sure if I'm at the right wedding cause the road sign was covered by some bushes. Nevertheless, I joined the "rombongan perempuan" as we strolled into the wedding house with the kompang blaring behind us. We were greeted with smiling faces, and people gently chucking "bunga rampai" at us.
Since this is the groom's side, I didn't really know anyone. (The guy is not from University of MInnesota, he's an alumni of University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign).. so while the bride and groom sat down to eat at the high table, me and my sister made our way to the guests' table and had our late lunch. I looked around to see if there was anyone I knew but everyone looked so unfamiliar. So we chit-chat with strangers, and kept ourselves occupied.
After we had our meal, I went to snap some pixs with the happy couple and went our way. Just before I left I met my other UofM senior (Haz and her husband). I haven't met her in years, so I greeted her before I left.
The ceremony was grand and joyous. Kak Ija was beautiful, and she looks so happy with her husband.
I wish you all the best in your marriage, hope it lasts forever..

Hi Noris, just found out about this site of yours and congrats! I'm so 'bashful' for being called 'cool'. hehe.. When is the big day? So, the caterer's name was for you after all eh? You do have my number rite? Tue 31-May-2005 02:27

It's time to Party

Yesterday I had a birthday party at my house. I haven't really had a birthday party for a long time, for I thought I'd throw one just for the sake of it..
I only invited friends from work, and my aunt who lives nearby..
Nonetheless we had a blast!

Here's just some photos of my one and only big brother's engagement ceremony, which takes place at the lucky lady's house. Fortunately the girl's house is just around the corner from ours, so our relatives gathered at my house first. Oh yeah, this didn't exactly happen yesterday, it was actually last November, on the 28th if I'm not mistaken.. How could I possibly foget, we all got a suvenior keychain from the girl's side..
Mama whipped up one of her usual miracles that morning, her special nasi lemak which easily satisfies any hungry tummy.. it got my vote for sure! Then we got into our cars and drove to Kg. Tunku (less than 5 minutes from the house by car) to Lieyana's house.
The house was the only house in the middle of the busy main road with a tent up, so it wasn't really that hard to miss.. along with the cameraman and welcoming crew, they seem to have gone all out. Quite understandable, considering she was the first child of the family and the eldest grandchild on her mum's side. They had quite a big crowd of family members and friends, it was a scene easily mistaken for a wedding, except the groom wasn't anywhere in sight..
The ceremony was held in a formal mode. It took dad off guard, when he ws called to make a speech.. but he did ok..
Overall it was a joyful occasion.. unmistakably the only time you'll ever see my brother in pink (he prefers to call it peach). That itself stocks us full of teases to last the next ten years.. well we had fun, can't wait 'til its my turn. Hope it's soon (Amin)..

yeyy dpt tgk jgk akhirnya! bestnya!
kenapa pak adik nampak sebak aja time bg speech tu? baru bertunang nih!!
abg amir pun pi jgk ka majlis bertunang?
btw, can i link ur fotopage to mine?

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2004

At Tower Bridge
Us together after 5 years apart

View all 11 photos...
To celebrate new year 2004, me and a few close friends had planned a trip to London.
I left Minnesota, USA on 23rd December 2003, 2 days after completing my finals, while Nini, Mudin and Monina arrived a day later due to a snow storm from Wisconsin, USA. On the other hand, Norman came from Dublin, Ireland. Pakak came from Bristol, UK and we met up with Alif and Azam who are already living in London.
My junior Nadia arrived from Minnesota the day before new year, greeted by yours truly accompanied by my darling Norman
We travelled around London during the day, visited historical and famous sites.
After having dinner at Monina's sister's house in Bayswater, London, we took a midnight stroll towards Picadilly Street to celebrate the new year with the other Londoners

We spent a whole week in London, then another week in Dublin, Ireland. At the end of it Nini, Mudin, Monina & I returned to Malaysia and everyone else went back to where they came from..

Finally, after four years of struggling and striving with homeworks, projects, labs, quizzes, midterms (almost every month, why do they call it 'midterms' is beyond me) exams, presentations and late night cramping sessions.. we have finally made it..
Thank you so much for everyone who has made it happen for me..
